By chance, I was smoking Rattrays 7 Reserve, always felt too plain. The only reason I give it three stars instead of four is that I don't feel comfortable giving my highest recommendation to a weed that the average pipester may not enjoy: I definitely think it's worth a try, obviously, but the flavor may be too strong, too intense, and too dark for the casual smoker. Some of my pipe smoking brethren seem to really enjoy this tobacco. SG's darker flakes in terms of strength are 1. full virginia flake (more of a toasted flavor than real dark), 2. A nice change of pace from more refined Virginias, but not compelling. Rather than return the tin, which is difficult for me to obtain, I removed the mold from the flakes and still smoked it since my craving was so great. It's fantastic and that means more for me. It does need relights but the slow burn is cool and flavorful, the relights simply add a burst of flavor.
